The ugly sweater of the Christmas holiday was our funny self, our childish self rising to the top of our nature in all the best ways. It showed that we were mature enough to take being laughed at in the right way as a sign of love.
The ugly sweater was a Christmas tradition that came to say more about who we wanted to become than the gifts beneath the tree. We weren't there to look good, we were there to be good.
The beauty of the ugly sweater was that it said - "upon our saviour's birthday we stop the competing and the vanity of our age, we come together to laugh and love one another."
Whist the ugliness of the sweater, and therein its beauty, is in the eye of the beholder... we had a family contest all the same. The winner got first dibs at in the secret Santa gift-exchange game that followed.
