church choir - quotes and descriptions to inspire creative writing
The church choir was different compared to other choirs that didn't sing hymns. Their voice was almost like angels', high notes soaring over the clouds, graceful notes dancing on the staves, and they sang for God only.
The children in the choir fidgeted and whispered through the service. The littler ones played with their smocks. The old folks in the congregation flicked their eyes toward them all through the sermon with either exasperated expressions or scowls. But when they sang all was forgiven. Their voices were as sweet as rain after August heat. They echoed amongst the masonry and up to the rafters. Their sweet song burst through the open doorway into the graveyard beyond. They reminded the old of the innocence of youth, soothing their spirits, stirring sweet memories. Yet if you asked the children why they sang so well, they all tell you it was for Mrs Folley's chocolate cake. She baked one every week and once their smock was off they could take a large slice.
