There is ever the creepy character in the storybooks. These tales appear to struggle with a dilemma. In one part they encourage society to accept those whom are different, such as Edward Scissorhands or Adams Family Values. In another part they seek to warn people to trust their instincts when a person harbours harmful or dishonest intent. Yet in reality they are very different. The former is well intentioned and big hearted, the latter has cruel intentions and is emotionally indifferent. One seeks to love, the other does not. And so perhaps we need stories that do a better job of showing this, of situations where we should extend a hand vs. situations where we should listen to instinct. After all, feeling "the creeps," is where this expression comes from, not a form of cold judgement or fear of losing social status via a friend "in low places."
