flames - quotes and descriptions to inspire creative writing
The flame of my match had no idea of the greatness before it, no notion that it would become one of the greatest blazes in the history of Genole. It was like a raindrop of yellow heat that crept up the wood, blackening it, charcoalising it, nearing my fingertips. So in an instant I dropped it and the flames leapt like an uncaged tiger into the night, a living wall of yellow flame.
The yellow flames flickered and danced with no thought of the oxygen or the fuel they consumed. They had no appreciation of what had been given to them and no concern for what would be left after. I didn't want to live like a flame, but unless I did I feared I would be an outcast.
The flames grew hot and filled the fireplace with their wrath and fury. They refused to be contained, condemned to die into ashes, a tame fire. Never. The fire sparked, sending showers of red onto the carpet, but they died in the air. The fire grew more intense, it blazed until it's flames became fiery imps and danced right out of the grate and onto the carpet. Then, with flaming footsteps, they rampaged their way to the curtains. The fire roared for joy and consumed all in it's path, what a feast! The flames sent up thick black smoke and devoured the house as if it were no more than a chocolate cake at a child's birthday party.
The new-born flames licked the newspaper in the grate like a hungry kitten. They flickered and lapped at the firelighters and kindling wood. They danced orange and yellow with their smoke that twisted in the draft toward the chimney. In minutes they grew ravenous, hungrily devouring everything in the grate. I placed a larger log into their seductive clutches and watched, hypnotized by their dance; a fiery, frenzied consumption that sent up sparks and ash, until the dying flames became glowing embers and then all that was left were the cold grey cinders and charcoalised remnants of wood.
The flames danced and leapt in the air, reaching hungrily for anything that they can consume to fuel their wrath.
The Picture frames of happy faces still hang on the wall. It's glass front cover glistens in the fire giving a mirage of endless Flames.
