The war horses road at full gallop, their knight steady upon their back, the dry summer earth rising into the summer fragranced air. Their lances were full level, held and aimed with focused resolve. Then as if answer to the tension a lances met with shields and one rider was unseated. The victor rode back to offer a hand and pull this friend to his feet, for tomorrow or any day hence they could be allies in any battle.

Jousting was the game of knights, the excitement in days of yore, the best entertainment the aristocracy ever put on. The crowds came to see the armour and the war horses ride in. The knights were respected for valour, for gallantry and their chivalrous code. Yet to see them joust, to witness their strength, helped the villagers feel better protected. For if these were their champions out there on battle fields then their homes were all the safer for it.
