neglect - quotes and descriptions to inspire creative writing
The child stood and stared at me with the kind of pinched look in his face you associate with starvation. His diaper hung low toward his knees, heavy with urine, and he smelled of faeces. The soiled t-shirt was loose and woefully inadequate for the temperature of the house, for despite it being the middle of winter it felt like the heating had not been on that day. When asked where is mother was he just stood and stared for a few minutes and then went back to the television. When I found his mom she was passed out next to several empty bottles of wine and an ashtray of cigarette buts. She was wrapped warmly in a duvet with a touque upon her head.
It wasn't just the house she neglected, she neglected her looks and her mind too. She neglected her friends and the few family who had bothered with her over the years. She saw no point in anything, such was the depth of her depression.
