When my puppy is sick, when he wakes me up every few hours at night because he needs to visit the garden and all I want is sleep, I know it's time to make myself do the right thing. Getting out of the warm duvet into the cold night air, taking him downstairs and waiting for him to come back, is the harder thing to do, but I respect myself more for doing it because I'm doing what good people do, I'm building myself into a better version of me.

A puppy born in a fur tuxedo looked at Sam as if he wore a top hat fashioned from velvety mischief.

My puppy is like "Groot," but instead of saying, "I am Groot," he only says "woof." Yet in each expression of his limited vocabulary there is a different emotion, a new thing said. It is everything from "Come play with me," to "Hey, I want some of your dinner!" And so I do my best to be a good interpreter for my little guardian of the couch.

When a yard and a half separated them, Harky flung himself forward, enfolded the pup with both arms, and clasped it to his chest. Being caught, the pup dropped his fish. Sinuous as a snake and swift as a hummingbird, he brought his head around, scored Harky's arm with needle-sharp puppy teeth, and blood seeped out of the scratches.

The puppy sprang toward them in bounding steps that were almost like jumps. As it turned a corner it's back legs swung outwards and it almost lost it's balance. Then it leaped up, pawing with it's fore paws for attention and it's wet tongue licking furiously at the out-stretched fingers. It was a Great Dane, and although it was already the size of the Basset Hound they had at home, it was clearly a baby. It was in constant motion, wagging, wriggling and jumping. It was a living store of pent up energy waiting to release itself on the world. It was adorable and for Lucy it was love at first sight.

The puppy had been left alone for five long minutes. She pounced around looking for something to ease the soreness of her gums. Her puppy needle teeth were being pushed out by adult teeth and it hurt. There was no bone for her and the shoes had been hidden already, so she set to work on the leg of the dining table. It was awkward, not really the right shape for her mouth, but it helped a bit and gave her something to do.

The puppy was exceptionally pleased with himself. He jumped around in the stagnant ditch, splashing the blackish water all over his newly washed cream fur. He stuck his nose under the surface and snorted, then he tried pulling at a stick but it was stuck firm in the dirt. A squirrel darted up a tree several metres away and he set off headlong into the forest to chase it, deaf to the frantic calls of his new owner.

The puppies are a few weeks old and already have rolls of fat under their golden fur. The litter mates mouth each other and tumble of the newspaper. Their mother looks on, barking a warning. She chatises them by mouthing their neck gently and they scamper away.

The poodle puppy chased at Jessica's heels nipping at her loose pants. The flapping material seemed irresistible to her. When she got a firm bite she began to shake her head back and forth. When Jess bent down to the prise her away her jaws were clamped shut. But there was no malice in those big doggy eyes, they were the eyes of a baby. So she turned the pup onto it's back gently and firmly and then gave a firm bark. The puppy released her grip and scampered away, ready to pounce again a few seconds later.

My puppy is just the same as my newborn brother was a few years back. She sleeps, she eats, she poops. But this one I have to leash train. She bites it and jumps, then pulls back like an untrained pony, then she'll sit and give me questioning eyes. I had to stop keeping the treats in the side pocket of my combat pants, she just couldn't concentrate. She kept nibbling at the fabric with her needle-like teeth. When she meets another dog it's clear she's no alpha. She rolls onto her back and whimpers, it's cute in a way I guess, but I'd rather she was more confident.

The puppy galloped right through the legs of the incoming Christmas dinner visitors and out into the icy road. Then without a backward glance he ran off to sniff all the trees and lampposts on the street. The stream of light from the open doorway grew narrower until it was cut off completely, the door was shut. He wandered up through the front yards until he spied another dog. Then he bounced toward it tail beating the cold air. The dog came forwards eagerly. Then out from his home came Mr. Singh to the rescue waving his umbrella and shouting. The coyote scattered, but so did the puppy, up toward the highway. The old gent followed the puppy, calling softly, coaxing, stooping to make himself look smaller. in just a few bounding leaps the little ball of white fur was snuggled into his dressing gown and on his way back down the hill.
