Improving agriculture and "food to table efficiency" without improving access to reliable contraception is akin to fixing a leaky fuel tank, filling it up and then strapping on a higher powered engine that will burn through the gas faster.
"Carmel, feeding the world is simple. Biotech breakthroughs are more akin to the icing on a cake rather than the eggs or flour. The 'first world' suffers antibiotic resistance due to the crowding of farmed animals - animals who consume much grain and water. The rest of the world struggles to have enough grain and water. The solution for everyone is a more plant based diet, keeping animals only where they can roam free. We are already producing our clothing from biotech spider silk and recycled plastics... so no more land and water needed for cotton production. We have zero issues with food production, zero; our species just needs to figure out how to share. As the Isley Brothers said, we need a harvest for the world."
Oh, l lied, there is another thing to mention, just in case your guilt is so thick that you can’t accept you are eating sentient beings, let’s just reign it in and talk about humans. One kilogram of grain fed pork represents fifteen kilograms of grain eaten by the pig. So if you eat the grain instead of the pork we can feed a lot more people using less land and resources, helping humans and the planet to heal. Of course the real reason, the deep reason, we shouldn’t treat them this way is that it isn’t a form of Love and I can’t take you Home until it stops. The transition will take time, but I need to see that it is underway, that you have received the message and are resetting your moral compasses.
