Learn More About Creative Writing Classes
Every young writer is different. That’s why my creative writing classes are fully tailored to the needs of each individual student.
Some students come with clear academic goals: preparing for exams, improving school essays, or building stronger vocabulary and grammar. Others need a gentler, more creative space to grow in confidence, find their voice, and enjoy writing again. Many need a bit of both.
My role is to understand where your child is right now – both academically and personally – and then shape a path that truly fits.
A Personal Pathway for Every Student
Before we begin, I look at:
Academic needs – current level, school expectations, exam boards, and any specific challenges.
Personality and learning style – shy or outgoing, fast or careful thinker, visual or verbal learner, and how they respond to feedback.
Interests and motivations – favourite books, films, games, topics, and the kind of stories or poems they naturally enjoy.
From there, I design a personal learning pathway that feels natural and achievable, rather than forcing every student into the same pattern.
The Five Core Books
All students work with the five core books available on the Product page. These books form the backbone of the learning journey:
They provide rich examples of strong writing.
They introduce literary devices in a clear, accessible way.
They offer structured practice that can be adapted to different levels.
However, no two students will use them in exactly the same way.
Same Books, Different Journeys
Even though the core books are the same, the pace and pathway are always different:
Some students move quickly through the early chapters and spend more time on advanced tasks.
Others need slower, more careful steps, with extra time to talk through ideas and build confidence.
A student who loves poetry might spend longer with the sonnets and poetic devices, while another who prefers stories might focus more on narrative structure and description.
For some, we emphasise exam-style writing; for others, we lean into creative exploration and emotional expression.
The goal is always the same: to help each student grow as a writer in a way that feels safe, encouraging, and genuinely enjoyable.
Blending Academic Growth and Personality
Good writing isn’t just about ticking academic boxes. It’s also about who the student is.
In class, we work on:
Academic skills – clarity, structure, vocabulary, grammar, and literary techniques.
Personal expression – voice, tone, emotional honesty, and creative risk-taking.
Confidence – feeling safe to try, make mistakes, and improve.
By respecting both the academic side and the personality of the child, we create writing that is not only technically strong, but also deeply authentic.
Online, Offline, and Everything In Between
Classes are held online, but they don’t have to feel like “just another screen.”
We can:
Use Zoom and Google Drive for live sessions and shared documents.
Combine this with books, notebooks, and pens for a more tactile, offline experience.
Adjust the balance depending on what helps your child focus and feel calm.
Some students thrive with more screen-based interaction; others do better when much of the work happens quietly on paper, with feedback arriving later. Both approaches are welcome.
Is This Right for Your Child?
These classes are especially suited to:
Children aged 9–12, and
Older students who are keen to deepen their writing and are happy to enquire.
If your child loves stories, wants to improve their writing, or simply needs a calmer, more thoughtful way to learn, this could be a very good fit.
How to Enquire
If you’d like to know whether this approach would suit your child, the best next step is simply to email me.
You can share:
Your child’s age and current school year
Any academic goals (exams, school support, general improvement)
A little about their personality and interests
Any concerns or hopes you have about their writing
From there, we can discuss a possible pathway and see if it feels right for you and your child.
