Autumnal ‘flowers of flame’ echo leaves that tumble as kite-rain.  How they flutter in boldest breezes, breezes that are but the tide of wintry winds. In stringless swirls leaves greets the blooms, blooms jostling in jocund merriment. In the cooling days their petals linger, fluttering as flags of summer days. As co-authors of the season’s days, into the scent of rain-quenched earth, they sign their aromatic signatures.

Autumnal flowers, as seasonal rebels, did wink as we passed by. When all of nature is yawning in gold-browns they smirk-scarlet and white from the hedgerows. How the poppies parade! How they flash cold-fire when all else cowers to the cold. What fun they are rustling softly amid the yard-tall grasses!

A chorus of autumnal blooms sang to the hearth hued canopy, inviting the soul to a stillness that could hear birdsong and breeze.

The days have cooled to a pleasant breeze; we bathe in the kind of weather that inspires long walks and poetry. Yet in this transition from the late summer time into the fall, the autumnal blooms press on as if the sun were at its fullest. The garden is a riot of gold, pinks and softest cream. And so I savour this, this beauty in the seasons that keep walking so calmly into the arms of winter.

In the early fall, when the Beech and Elder trees still offer their greenery to even the most casual eye, the blossoms in nature's garden still abound. Perhaps an individual flower may go without second glance, yet together, as a community of vivid petals in the green, they are a spectacle without rival.
