Operatic Rain Enlivens and Chills the Same
--- Creative Mood Writing on Rain ---

Mood writing is evocative of the great classical writers, the masters of yesteryear.  In The Mood Book's pages we absorb their craft via creative prose examples. Some days we feel rainy inside, as if a wintry storm had broken in our hearts. At other times, a gentle spring rain can invigorate and renew our sense of soulfulness. Either way, with stormy weather as a symbol of  stormy emotions, or fair weather as a barometer of finer feelings, rain in the world of fiction isn't simply a way for the sky to quench the earth.  Added to this is both water's symbolism of truth and cleansing. Thus, rain is a powerful way to enhance mood writing. So, for writing that makes a splash, let's read about rain.

The Rain Chattered Merrily as Millions of Rebel-Drops
--- Creative Mood Writing on Rain ---

How Rain Romances Mischief's Soul

Rain played upon spring blossom as a love song. Streams swelled with heaven’s most happy tears. Earthy hues blushed a deeper brown, singing proud their warmest notes. Water clothed birds made their stand to ring as an acapella choir. Fresher and fresher the aromas cleansed. Time rolled on. Aqua’s orchestra rose to its crescendo. The silver threaded clouds lightened, whitened, dispersing to a lacey sky-net.

Example One:

Example Two:

Autumnal rain was summer's envelope, sealing her safely in until her time returned. Do not open until mid-June sings. Do not open until mid-June stretches her wings. Quenched forest earth opened wide brown arms. Quenched trees took their fill. Fish swam in liberated arcs, sensing the cleaner flow. Though cooler were the promised days, announced by the glossy reds and golds above, the drumming of the raindrops was heart-music far and wide.

Example Three:

Rain blossomed from the ether as desert flowers to quenched sand, appearing independent of both clouds and gravity. From whence it had come, I failed to fathom. It lingered, tarried long as misty-fog, as if the concept of making haste was quite alien to its mode of thought. For both sights and aromas it was a blank canvas I suppose, one that invited the imagination to bring its easel and stand, to awaken creativity from its pensive slumbers.

Example Four:

Each raindrop was a butterfly, a butterfly of aqua-flight, of aqua-grace and sweetly smudged transparency.  My sight they did fill with more beauty than any mortal heart can dream, than any mortal heart has a right to behold. Yet, in a docile daydream, in a poet's gentle moment, I did. I saw. I grew. Those water-motes, so cool and fine, were a gift. As light gave each a rainbow hue, as wind swept each into an aeronautic ballet, flowers scented each as lovely as rose water. And so, arms wide, palms to the cloud cosseted sky, I became their awaiting blossom.

Icy Rain Drains Moods to Deep Blues

A grief of clouds drained light to the meanest gloom. Rain, thick and fast, pelted in ugly mood. The lament of forest creatures it did drown to less than a garbled and strangled weep. Its hammering was a distress to leaves, a burden to trees, and an onslaught of undeserved bitter pummel. Cold. So cold. Even the air did shiver. Scents abandoned the air as fox from hounds, finding the warmer hug of deep underground. Still it trickled in. Still it leaked. Woe! Woe! Such torrent! Such unforgiving batterings!

Example Five:

Example Six:

Morose clumps of oily-cloud slicked the sky in oppressive growl. Thunder cared not for meekness. Lightning cared not for calm. And, the rain! Oh, the rain! It fell as icy arrows to marrow and soul. Strike! Strike! On and on it slew. Never a pause. Never a respite. Never a gap for sun-rays to thread through. Wind thought not to lessen. Ground thought not to smooth afoot. No! No! On and on it slew as if to let up was to lose.
