We were the first ones in the neighbourhood to get air conditioning. Alfie would describe the house as his personal walk-in refrigerator. For a while he was the most popular kid in school, everyone wanted to hang out at our place for the summer.

Outside, the day was scorching. Construction workers fainted, small children ran inside. It almost seemed like everyone on earth was in their homes. The houses were filled with a continuing breeze, refreshing after your body feels like it is like a boiling pot of water. The swift circulation of the air in the homes was something no human can comprehend.
