Everything familiar to me was in those boxes, things that brought wonderful memories to my thoughts, playing them as if they were beloved old movies. And so I wrote "fragile" on the side in bold letters in the hope that the helpers would take great care of them.
Searching through the new donations, Marcia found a box. It was small, black and shiny, the kind that comes from an uptown jewellery store with an expensive ring inside. She began to mentally debate if she'd admit to finding it. Then jamming her chipped nails into the crack and prising it opening it she let out a scream. The ring was there alright but it was still on the finger.
When they got home there was a box in the middle of the room. The alarm was still set and there was no sign of a forced entry. It was an ordinary cardboard box with no distinguishing features. There was no mailing address and it was sealed shut with brown tape. If anything the tape was the only unusual thing, it was applied a tad too enthusiastically, almost as if the mailer had no scissors and instead used the whole roll.
