On Christmas Day we are thankful for the one who came with a message of love. It was a call to think of others before the self, an invitation to really think of how the God of Creation, the Ancient of Days, may wish that we took care of Earth, her life forms, and each other.

Christmas Day was here. Even before my eyes had let in the light of day, I could hear the church bells from the stone spire. Ahead was a day of quiet contemplation, a day of thinking of the year ahead and how to bring more of Christ's love to humanity than I did the year before.

This Christmas day the only gifts allowed where homemade, and hugs were perfectly acceptable as presents. Meg even sat under the tree, arms wide, "free hugs!" she giggled.

This Christmas Day our gifts to each other is the food we make, the thought we put into it and the time we spend together. So other than the wrapped chocolate beneath the tree, our Christmas didn't come from a store... and, you know what? It really did mean so much more.

This Christmas Day we think of what it means to truly follow a man who was born into poverty, who never sought riches, only to speak of love with wisdom and make his heavenly father proud. What does it mean to live with Christ as a role model? Why are we celebrating the birth of this radical brown-skinned Jew who literally flipped tables and stirred up society? He was both lamb and lion, soft hearted yet with an almighty roar.
