This is our turn off, Colony Farm. It used to be a real farm operated by the psychiatric patients at Riverview, now it’s community gardens and the tracks we’ll be walking on are owned by First Nations. The road down to the main car park is pretty bumpy, when we come down here with bikes on the back we have to go slow and still they sway wildly. With the hedgerows on either side the lane almost has an English feel to it, not quite though, too straight. Unlike Riverview the land is a flat, wide valley floor with a lazy meandering river curling through it. The road is so long that by the time we get to the other end the air is fresh again, no highway fumes at all. We can take the garden path and head up to the bridge before hunkering left and following the river for a way. Sometimes there are ducks, mallards mostly, with their iridescent green heads, swimming and turning tail up, beautiful. It’s so quiet too, did I say that already?
