The Easter Bunny was a good friend of mine. Of course he existed all year round! He loved to come over for tea and hot buttered toast and rabbit away about whatever was on his mind. Mostly it was chocolate egg related. After all, he was his own sort of Willy Wonka, he had to be! There was so much chocolate required and a task almost as complex as that which the North Pole carried out in December. Plus, he would add with a smidgen of pride, he grew his own fur coat!

The Easter Bunny needed a year off, paternity leave I believe. So he called up his friends at the North Pole to see if maybe they could switch it up a bit this year - Easter at Christmas and Christmas at Easter.

It was quite the most extraordinary Easter Sunday. The bunny, having many kittens that year (as rabbits often do), needed someone to care for them. And so we were swiftly introduced to a set of young bunnies who quite resembled characters from Beatrix Potter. They were well dressed - very - though with the odd button adrift here and there. Clearly their fur had been combed for the occasion and they were simply itching to mess it up again. What could we do but agree? And that was how the adventures began.

Each Easter Sunday we'd be on the look out for the Bunny, Seth and me. We'd crouch behind garden fences and shrubbery with our detective costumes on. I had my camera ready and him his reporter notebook. We were going to be on the front pages of every newspaper, the kids with a world exclusive interview with Mr (or Miss) Easter Bunny!

Each year at the community meeting we'd draw lots to see who got to be this year's Easter bunny. They lucky winner went home with the costume and a fair amount of chocolate eggs to give away. For the rest of us there was still much to do. We planned the Great Easter Egg Hunt, a family walk through the most pretty parts of the park with clues to solve and eggs to discover. It took a small army of us to keep replenishing the eggs the children found. After all, we wanted their faces to light up with joy rather than be disappointed at the eggs being gone already.
