"For the longest time marriage, in many cultures over the centuries, was essentially the enslavement of the woman in a clear hierarchy of male dominance; thus gay marriage was of enormous help in this matter," Professor Archer paused to sip water. "When it was a marriage of two of the same gender, whom had the upper hand? And since nobody did there, it was a sort of magical reset button for the institution entirely. Suddenly the prime motivation was love. Beautiful, right?"
