Lamp,
My friend,
A heart so bright,
Cloaked in starry velvet midnight,
Come what may,
Come what might,
Forever you are,
My love light.

The sleek silver angle-poise lamp was simple and elegant - minimalist perhaps. It was moveable like the arm of a robot on a car assembly line, able to throw it's beam of light in any direction. He found it satisfyingly heavy too, a justification he thought for the huge price tag. It fitted in with the other gadgets he loved so much. He had a thing for solidly engineered goods. He wanted everything he bought to look great, work perfectly and last a lifetime

She had made the lamp in ceramics class when she was seventeen. The light bulb was housed inside a clay bowl that looked like Irises growing up around the bowing sides to the opening at the top. When the lamp was on the light shone from the gaps between the clay flowers. In her drawing room in the dark winter evenings the shadow Irises appeared to be growing up the walls. It reminded her of her youth and she reminisced about days gone by with a cup of Earl Grey tea and a few chocolate topped digestive biscuits.
