Newt - quotes and descriptions to inspire creative writing
Long, slimy, striking colours, dark skin with bright orange crest and dots like a psychedelic 1970's carpet, wriggling and twisting in the jam jar. Mottled grey skin and spiky crested like a miniature dinosaur, resting in the shallow edge of the pond, half hidden with weed, tiny splayed toes, big frog-like eyes, slithering gait, astonishingly fast swimmer, disappears in the blink of an eye, looks like it's grinning, soft bodied.
The crest running right from it's nape to the tip of it's tail gave it away, it was a Great Crested Newt. It was like a tiny black dragon with beady eyes searching for a way to escape the warm hand it was trapped in. It's long toes were speckled yellow and although it moved quickly I knew that it was nothing compared to the speed with which it could swim. In less that a second of being released back into the pond it had vanished from sight into the murky water. Off to cool down in the depths away from my mammalian heat.
