Plastic surgery can be a life saver for those who need rebuilding or are born with a deformity. It can be as impactful and important as any other branch of medicine. Yet what we have generated with relentless images of "one kind of body as 'perfect'" is a problem for many, especially women. When the average breast size is a B, why do we see the bulk of women in advertisements being so much larger? As a woman, it feels abusive on a grand social scale. Patriarchy is male dominated, but many women have taken on the same attitudes for personal enrichment and now abuse other women just as much. There are men who fight for women, who oppose these images and are protective. Thus, patriarchy vs chivalry is not women vs. men, nor the converse, but utilitarian emotionally cold personal enrichment vs. what is loving, kind and right. Nobody should feel the need to become a Barbie doll human for acceptance in society or to become successful in the public eye, though I have felt that pressure and empathise.

The woman is clearly old but fighting it every step of the way. Her hair is jet black and the white skin of her face looks too tight. Her lips have been fattened and her eyelashes are false. What she can't hide is the redistribution of her body fat. Even with countless hours of hot yoga her waist was thicker and stomach more relaxed. She was at the point that the more effort she made to appear youthful the worse she would look.

Did I tell you about the time I met Marsha? She ran after me and tackled me for stealing her bike. We went crashing to the ground, almost got run down by a cement truck in its way to the new housing development. If I think about it I can still smell the cloud of concrete gas and the burning of the tires. She had me pinned like one of her ward patients. In my defence, it looked just like my bike, same brand, but mine had a bell on the handlebars. That was before we had kids, back went we were young and good looking. Well, she is still good looking; but that’s brown skin for you, it ages way better than white. I have skin envy, boob envy too, but that’s the lot of small chested women I guess. We’re all supposed to be double D with the same waists we had at sixteen. No wonder people go under the knife, it’s a kind of mental torture really. Keep telling people they need to meet impossible beauty standards to be loved, to keep their partners, and they’re willing to risk their lives to achieve it.
