Pruning - quotes and descriptions to inspire creative writing
She circled the young apple tree like a prowling tiger, her old pruners in one hand, opening and closing the stiff blades like steel jaws. Then seizing upon a mid-sized branch growing toward the center of the tree she wrapped the blades around it and squeezed. The upper blade sunk into the branch half way through and then got stuck. Frustrated, she wiggled the pruners until the branch came away and the lower bark ripped down the tree.
If you prune out entire upper branches instead of making many small cuts, more sunlight gets to the lower areas of the apple tree and it is easier to keep the desired shape. Pruning a tree to the wine glass shape is very similar, except you prune the main trunk at about 40 inches high in it's first year.
