roller coaster - quotes and descriptions to inspire creative writing
The roller coaster was impressive for such a pier in a British ex-seaside vacation town. It was the kind of place that would have been hopping with ice-cream buying families only a generation previously, before the advent of cheap flights to Majorca and Ibiza. In the cool mist of fall it was silent once more, it's brief moment of summer activity for the local children over. It's track went up steeply to a high point and then dropped precipitously into a hair-raising dive, the speed from which took the sparsely loaded cars around two full loops before coming to a halt. There was talk of it coming down this winter, that the summer trade no longer covered it's maintenance. Without it the maze of mirrors and the ghost train would likely follow soon; perhaps replaced by more arcade games.
The roller-coaster was a lonely skeleton for three long seasons. The poles jutted into the sky-line no more vibrant than the naked winter trees. For some it was a promise of the summer to come, for some a reminder of the one just past. But for the children of the downtown core it was just a playground for the middle classes, a symbol of one more thing that was only for those with enough money to pay.
Click click click. The cart drags itself up with effort as your hands tighten on the bar and your breath quickens in anticipation and fear. Click click click. You laugh nervously, "It's awfully high isn't it?" and try not to think about what happens when you reach the top. Click click click. Suddenly, you are full of doubts-why did you let them convince you this was a good idea-but it is too late to turn back now. Click click click. You look around to distract yourself, and for a moment you can see an entire kingdom of laughter and food and swooping machinery, then... Click click whoosh. There is nowhere to go but down.
My stomach filled with even more butterflies of nervousness as we approatch the ride, the scr1ms of the passengers making me want to hide. "Come on, Kirstie, have some fun." The queue was enormous, never the less Lucy still lined up, she was so excited. She got to the front of the queue, and started to have second thoughts when she heard the creepy laughter and tense music, she got pushed on to the front seat on the far left side, just where she was most likley to fall. The girl was strapped into her seat tight but she was still worring.
She heard the creeking of the cart moving and with that everyone started screaming as the cart raced and raced, she wanted to close her eyes but she couldn't manage to keep them closed.
After it was all over she got out with a stumble and started walking out making sure she didn't bump into any walls. "that was so awesome" she screamed making the people who surrounded her jump. It was epic!!!
Steel frame, tight banked turns, steep climbs, sharp descent, loop the loop, up-side down, wide arc curling back toward the start point, huge climb, rocketing up spindly track, serpentine shape.
