In the movie theatre auditorium there's a buzz of excited talk. Children on tiptoe stare at the popping machines, grinning for their salty snack. I know the profits from the popcorn are the lifeblood of the movie theatre industry, but as a student I have my clandestine snack in my oversized combat pants. I'm usually here for the action adventure hollywood movies, the ones packed with the sexy celebrities, but not tonight. I'm trying to impress a new girl so we're here for a retro classic. The lobby is swarming, fast moving, until she steps into the doors. Then time stops. My stomach turns unhelpfully and I feel my skin turn clammy. She lights up into a smile and what can I do but follow suit, if she is the sun then I am the moon. I have the tickets ready so all there is to do is slip my hand in hers and listen to her “guess what?” story as we stroll to the auditorium.

There's something about Carey that makes me feel so young inside, but not in a childish way. He wakes the pure side of me, the best side, all the facets of myself that only require love to be healthy and whole. Should I have eternity to be with this guy I would sink into serenity, just content to be close. Our energy vibrates in such a unique way, each the perfect compliment of the other. I'm not simply "in love," I'm well and truly smitten. Any other could only be a poor reflection, no more substantial than a shadow of the real thing. Carey is what makes my heart strong. His smile alone burnishes my soul into a beauty it could never have achieved on its own. Before we met I was one, now I am a half, yet somehow so much more than I ever was before.

Amid these autumnal browns that calm my spirit you are the warmth. I don't feel the cold wind, or notice the fine mist, or the life that continues beyond the wall of the park. That you are smitten, that you love as deeply as I, is the thing we never speak. It is the thing we never have to speak. It is there in our laughter, in the soft way we touch, in the gaze that lingers when we part. You are the one. You always were.
