Suburbia is totally underrated. Live there if you can, or some nice village, or coastal town. Suburbia is where you can leave in peace and let your creativity become truly free. What is it you can do in the city except be drawn into the latest fad, the latest hive-mind trend? Get a house in a neat street with calm neighbours. Then in time you will be calm too and have a chance to become happy. Trust me. Quiet is good.

You can find a balance in suburbia, in our uncommunity communities, where folks know you and don't. It is how we live nowadays. Gone are the times when most of a community were related in some way and had been there for generations, when everyone knew everyone. Neighbours are friends and strangers, nobody really wants to know anyone. Thus suburbia is the city - or an extension of it. You have more of a "face" perhaps, yet the knowledge of you is barely skin deep and even wanting to know more is considered a rudeness. Don't get me wrong here, that's why I love suburbia. The only upgrade from here for my unsociable soul would be a remote house with only a natural landscape or coastline in view. What I'm saying is, though we are born with an urge to form communities and be loved, at some point you stop all that because nobody else appears to want it, then you learn independence and take on a more mountain lion persona, totally okay with little to no social contacts apart from close family. "Adapt and overcome," eh? Painful but effective.

Suburbia is the rock in the storm, the anchor for the ship, the ballast of society. This is part of the balance of social evolution, the young push for change and the older generation keep stable what should remain so. The trick, as always, is finding the right balance and this can be especially challenging when situations require more rapid changes than in stable times would be wise.

I love being here in this tranquil suburbia, the eye in the storm of this world.
