Tennis shoes were an ode to the summer sun, to those days of soul-shine and laughing winds.

I grew up in tennis shoes, white with green stripes, not that I could ever aim a ball or play the game. That was back in the eighties. Either I'd wear them out playing go-karts on the street or out-grow them - but the next pair was the same. White with green stripes, simply cleaner and with a perfect heel.

In those tennis shoes, in that simple canvas with a simple heel and sole, I felt as if I could create my day as an artist makes a wonderful new picture.

The tennis shoes, brown with white laces, brought a smile to my soul. There was something about the fit, as if my foot was in a glove. What could I do but step forward with confidence. After all, the sun was up and a new day was on the clock.
