Thanksgiving food connected us all ways: to one another, to the natural world and to eternal love.

My thanksgiving food can be toast and peanut butter, perhaps with a drizzle of honey, and with that meal I am more blessed than most who share our planet. Perhaps it is time we reevaluated what abundance is in our long suffering world?

Thanksgiving food was freshly baked bread that Nana would have in the oven before we'd wake. It was the cranberry pie Father would make. It was the baked potatoes crammed with our favourite toppings. Above all, it was the flavours of home and the feelings of comfort. It was the feeling of being cherished rather than simply coexisting.

If the good Lord has put food on our table, then we have owe a deep debt of gratitude. It is not for us to demand luxury and excess, yet to savour what we have and marvel in simplicity. Let us be thankful for bread, for the golden wheat in our fields, for what gold is truly a treasure to mankind? Let us learn how to share our harvests with humble hearts that are willing to work for the wellness of all. Thanksgiving is a chance to confront the selfish desires and tell them you intend to become a better person, a person Jesus would be proud to call a disciple.

For this thanksgiving food, let us thank our creator with deeply humble hearts, and let us thank the farmers too. Let us thank the field workers, the packers, the truck drivers and the shelf stackers. For without that chain of sacred people the table would be bare.

Perhaps we show our gratitude this thanksgiving, not with another feast, yet show that we can also give thanks by giving food instead. When does the blessed person learn to say they have been blessed enough and start to help God to bless others?
