Leo was flicking peas. What else was he to do with them anyway? They were the size of rabbit poop, the colour of snot and tasted like yuck. Perhaps if he got his fingers to move faster he might hit the wall. Flick. Flick. Flick. Mom wasn't looking anyway, she just shovelled her food in whilst looking fixedly at a spot on the wall that was just like any other. Flick. Flick. Flick. Faster than a striking cobra she turned and rocketed forwards at the same time, until her face was an inch from his. Every muscle was tense and her eyes bulged. Leo's face fell slack and he became almost as pale as the fashionably off-white walls and carpet. Her words came out like bullets and he was the only target in the room. "I worked to buy those peas. Eat them. Or do you want a smack?" Leo's bottom lip trembled, silent tears fell onto his food tray. Ordinarily he would cry but somehow his voice wouldn't work. Mom retreated and picked her spot on the wall again. His fingers shook and fumbled the peas...
