The bone was white with a subtle hue of gold, I guess that's what happens as they age. I wondered why it wasn't in a grave, buried with a sense of love and honour, yet instead left here in the open to decay.

The bones we found appeared to be spongy, as if the animal had had some kind of bone disease.

The bone was clearly that of a large individual. It was a femur, judging by the ball and socket joint at one end and it was a foot and seven inches in length. That would make this individual six feet four inches tall, quite a giant for the era.

There was a white patch in the dirt, like an off-white stone. It's end though was rounded like the ball and socket of a hip bone. I called the team over and we unearthed it gently. The bone was clearly that of a juvenile. The epiphyseal plate of cartilage was still uncalcified and it was too short to be an adult. The rest of the skeleton was unlikely to be far away.

The bone had been sharpened to a point, a weapon no doubt. It could have easily been tied to a spear tip.
