And through the inky black came a blaze of brilliant blue, moving through the sky as the tip of a cosmic artist's brush; bold enough to light up the eyes, respectful enough to leave the starry starry night in perfect form once it has passed. The comet came as if the remind us that there is life out there in the universe, a reality formed of infinite moving parts, not simply the canvas of our sky, yet a deep and rich vastness of other worlds.

The comet arrives right on time, the front making its bold way across the winter sky, the tail becoming a fine decoration to lift the spirits of the onlookers. The heavens are never more enchanting than with this transient beauty; we love the stars yet this is something to savour while it graces us with its presence.

The comet is ablaze in the sky, a brilliant streak of white tinged blue that caresses the heavens. Gregory watches it, eyes wide in a way that exaggerates the long lashes his mother loves so much. He lets out a sigh he didn't know he was holding and lets his shoulders hang loose. Though he is closer to twenty five, in that moment he is five again, holding his father's hand as he names the constellations, always telling a heroic story for each.

The comet comes in midwinter, bringing a scorch of light to the inky sky. It has been travelling longer than our minds can imagine, yet it was always destined to be here in this time and place, just as we were destined to bare witness to its beauty.
