"Drowsy," that's what the label warns Emilio to expect. Minutes after the pill has slid down his throat he feels his focus diminish. After five minutes more he wakes with a start even though he had no recollection of falling asleep. His eyes are glazed in a way Mary has seen with the drug addicts in the ER.

I drifted into consciousness. And then back out. The world was a blur, and random images seemed to float aimlessly around in the pool of my thoughts, as though they were being blown about viciously by a hurricane. A tap on my shoulder momentarily brought me back to the outside world, but after a second I was once again lost. I could feel somebody trying to look at me, staring dead in the eye, but I couldn't keep focus. The whole world simply felt low resolution, a bad quality movie. Confusion blossomed in my heart and I knew that sooner or later I would need to wake up. To stare reality in the face. But for now I lay down my heavy head, and retreated into wallowing blackness.

I always thought of "drowsy" as a soft word, like "blanket" and "hug." The chemicals in my blood fee more like a leech in my cranium, sucking my ability to keep my eyes open and my brain switched on. The world blurs like a painting caught in the rain too soon and once again the vivid dreams begin, always inserting Cody where he never was.

It was twelve a.m. and I could feel Nyx slowly dozing off. From the week of barely getting any sleep, I had expected this. As his head lolled onto my shoulder, his eyelids finally slipping closed; I smiled. The rest of him slowly leaned into me, the rest of his body going limp. I could finally see him sleep. Without the complex workings of his conscious mind he looked so vulnerable and childlike, it took a few seconds to register that it was Nyx laying on my lap, not Branston. His breaths were even and calming, the expression on his face no longer stressed but relaxed. His eyelids fluttered, but he seemed too out of it to notice.

I tried to keep my eyes open, I really did.
But it was so hard, and I was so comfortable.
Soon, that was all that I was aware of: The soft mattress underneath me, the warmth of the sheets around me. My eyes began to drift closed. I was blissfully unaware of what was going on around me. Then it was just me and my dreams.

My head has become foggy, like that time when alcohol takes me into oblivion, but I haven't drunk a drop. It's as if every eye lash weighs more than it should and gravity has been turned up ten fold. In moments I acquiesce and lie on the dirty ground, brain checking out as I slide into instant REM.

As Carter wakes his mind swims with a departing dream; he sighs, reluctant to banish it and begin his day. The light of late morning shines into his slowly opening eyes and he brings his hands to guard them. Everything about him feels heavy from his arms to his feet. He lets his head loll from one side to the other, eyes closing one more time as he enjoys the brief darkness. There is no option to sleep on, no chance to rest and conjure his dream anew.

Fantasy / Epic

Amy's head jolts upward letting her know she fell asleep. Her eyes grow wider than usual and take on a wild look as she scans for new signs of danger. For a few seconds she feels confused, unsure of where she is, then it all comes back to her and she feels her arm for the injection point. The drowsiness is a side effect that may or may not wear off before the dragons come...

It was kind of like the eclipse in a strange sense of the phrase. The back of his brain was awake as he typed, however, the soldiers across the front of his brain blocked its vision so that he couldn't for the life of him operate his hands to click the correct keys.

Similar to the consistency of butter, the thoughts in his head melted away with so much as every discombobulated sound of a soft, tap, tap, tap, that entered his ears. Outside, the falling rain didn't help, and it wasn't long before his thoughts turned to static and he finally collapsed under the breeding between each black and white particle.

He was so tired. Unbelievably so.
