The pirate was twenty and he knew he'd be lucky to see thirty. So he spent his share of the plunder on all the pleasures the land could provide, whatever he missed at sea he could but with the galleons. His hair was a mass of dreadlocks and his scalp itched constantly. His muscles were sinewy but strong. His stunted height was common place, lack of nutrition in childhood can do that. But for what he lacked in stature he made up for in aggression and cunning. He could wield a sword or a dagger with the deftness of a circus act and he sharpened his weapons every morning at sunrise. His speech was little more than a series of grunts, he found he almost never needed to talk. His clothes were dark coloured but fancy and soft, tailor made each time he came to harbour. His shoes were a thick black leather, beaten to be supple, he would not abide blisters. He paid the cobbler in advance for a new pair to be ready for him on the shelf.

As the relentless waves battered The Plunderer she lurched dangerously performing figure of eights. The rain lashed down in silver sheets and the wind galed about them. Black Beard was as mad as a dog in the noon day sun, through the howling wind he hollered, "Raise the Jolly Roger!" Their ship swung starboard along side the SS Goldbarrel, also doing figures of eight. A boarding in this storm was utter lunacy, but this is what they had come to expect from their captain. Shouting curses the pirates raised daggers and swords above their heads and leapt with closed eyes on board the other ship. Some fell into the tumult of waves never to be seen again.
