scuffle - quotes and descriptions to inspire creative writing
Two men grunted as they took handfuls of each other's clothing and attempted to wrestle the other to the ground. Then the tall one released a hand-hold and used it to start jabbing the other man in the ribs. Then the shorter one release both hands and grabbed the other man's hair, bringing his face down sharply onto his bent knee. Blood flowed from the tall man's broken nose and he staggered backwards. And that seemed to be the end of the little scuffle. Short, violent and bloody.
As they stood in line for the bread a scuffle broke out. Someone had edged into the line-up in front of a friend. They had been spotted by a kid who shouted it out. A ripple of dissent had spread, there were bitter comments and the ones at the back not guaranteed anything became the most distressed. But any form of disobedience would not be tolerated. If a fight broke out everyone around them was in danger. Then a young man broke from near the back and strode forwards. His face was hardened and his fists opened and closed rhythmically. In those few seconds the silence was absolute, nobody even breathed. Then he grabbed the cheat by the back of his shirt and swung him out of line, releasing him as he tumbled to the tarmac. Then he turned to go. Before he'd even taken two paces the other guy was on his back tugging hard on his hair and shouting obscenities. That's when we scattered, no-one was dying for a loaf today. Better to see the dawn in with an empty belly.
