The alien invasion was as much a rescue mission as anything else. The dumb part was we all expected to see them, or see great ships in the sky. Neither of those things occurred. They'd been here for sometime, quietly fixing things, helping the Earth to heal.

The aliens buzzed forwards and backwards in time looking for a fix to the destruction of one of their favourite planets, one that was so much like their own home. It was curious to them that they couldn't go back beyond a certain point and alter "history." The only possible explanation was a common ancestor, someone their own civilization depended on, a genetic or spiritual parent, or else some piece of knowledge they had never invented for themselves. That's when they knew. Somehow they had found their origin planet against all odds. In a nanosecond they threw a cloaking force field around it and settled in for protection duty - protection from the enemies of the future and protection of the planet from their ancestors greed-soaked cultures. From outer space it would look as if nothing was there, from the planet surface they would see only stars and no space traffic at all.

Science / Alien Contact

The aliens had been cloaked among us long before they were brave enough to show their presence. They observed for centuries, gathering data, learning about every form of life on Earth. Yet they knew before the bipedal mammals that the planet they had grown to love so much was in dire peril. As the bipeds pumped toxins into the skies, they struggled to correct the imbalances. By the alien calculations the actions of the dominant native species would kill the planet and all life she cradled and so they had no choice but to open communications. They first tried with crop circles and pictures, but to no avail. Then they tried to download memories from the bipeds in order to understand them better and what they found shocked them. There was evidence of mind control from another source - from the dark side of the force. The species was slowly being pushed into a dangerous form of "hive mind," one that would end with them devolving instead of evolving.

No longer could they wait, communications were urgent. They tried to talk to them in binary, similar to the morse code of the war. For every positive thing they assigned a number one, for negatives they assigned a zero. Perhaps they could learn the alien tongue that way... by working it out from the way they coded computers...

The aliens had had agents on the Earth for some time, more as observers than anything else. What they saw was unbearable, suffering in so many species. They needed to find humans to act as unwitting educators of the rest of their species, after all, what better than ideas coming from among them? But at the same time they needed to uphold interplanetary law, and "When a dominant species threatens the entire planet and the removal of them will not harm the planet, a progressive cull is mandatory." With that in mind they had to gather reliable data on everyone, quite a task with billions. But really it was only the adults they needed information on. With a few hints in the right ears social media began, the humans would have to give information on themselves and their friends. That would never be enough for the high council though, next would come DNA testing to be sure. It wasn't necessary to test everyone, just a selective sample to compare against the other data.

When the aliens came to earth they took their standard planetary health check, it had been some time since they'd been near the backwater called "Earth." The readings were off the charts, mass extinction and pollution. The dominant species appeared to be in full knowledge of the damage being inflicted to not only their own species but all of the others, yet they carried on. They had belief systems given by God that forbade killing and promoted a guardianship mentality and by and large they accepted it, the non-religious had good moral codes too. Yet they had the least suitable people making global choices, people who chose their "tokens of value" over the lives of their own species and others. They chose death and misery over living cooperatively. Their history showed that such ideas had come and gone, always ending with one dominant person reigning God-like over the "worker-bees." Step one was a reeducation program, by law it had to be tried before the selective culls began.

When the final days for the humans of planet Earth came, they came out in droves to plead their innocence. The alien high command looked at them through his compound eyes, his mouth a thin line. Extermination was an unpleasant business and even more so when the dominant species was sentient - but they weren't the only sentient species on the planet and the law of Galaxy 5 had to be applied. The humans had been sent the required number of messages through their "prophets" despite their penchant for killing them. Now the populations cried, "It wasn't us! It was the corporations, we just did what we had to do to survive!" The alien commander couldn't speak human, not in any dialect, it just sounded like so much bleating to him. He punched a button on his translator and his mouth became an even grimmer slash, mandibles clicking in irritation. He made his reply.

"You all voted with your tokens system - money - every day. You bought products made with the sweat of children and slavery. You preferred factory farmed meat to lentils and herbs. You abused your own kind, killed them, waged war after war despite being told not to kill. You have run your economies to the degradation of this planet, all other species and even your own. Your warnings came from the Creator Herself, and still you ignored them. Remorse is easy when you face annihilation, but it doesn't last long. Real change is boring, it takes tedious work on a daily basis. There are no fan-fares or celestial rewards. If you weren't all so desperate to get to your "heaven" you'd have realized you're already there. But before you complete the process of making it a "hell" we have come to save Planet Earth - whether you like it or not. We aren't cruel, there won't be any pain, it'll be just the same as before you were born."

Well, you are looking a bit green around the gills today. Don’t worry so much, we aren’t going to eat any of them anyway. Didn’t I tell you that they’re my friends. I don’t eat my friends anymore than you do! You don’t - do you? Of course you don’t, silly me. Anyway today I need you to help me solve a huge problem. Some aliens are right now hovering in our upper atmosphere and they don’t see much of a difference between us humans, the cows, the pigs and the sheep. They’ve done their own tests and found the other species comparable in many ways. Given that compared to the aliens we are about as smart as a deep fried brick, how do we convince them not to farm us?

They say we won’t even see the pen, it will be quite invisible. We won’t even know they are there and we won’t think we are eaten at all. In fact, it will seem to us that we are still living a natural life. They of course will decide when we die, when our meat is most to their tastes. They will encourage us to overpopulate the planet. With their advanced capabilities, they will simply tweak our reality, we will die of “cancer” and “heart failure” and like Danny, once we are afraid it is unlikely we will ever challenge the reality they provide for us. The advanced aliens say that since we accept the factory farming of species very close to us in emotional range and intelligence that we don’t "have a leg to stand on" in telling them they can’t do the same to us. I’ve been fending them off for a time by demonstrating our ability to show love since that is the universal signal for the divine creator. These aliens evolved with a belief that if the farmed species themselves accepts a certain morality, then you can do the same thing to them.

Only a species that navigates by the Power of Love alone cannot be dominated, subjugated or consumed under interstellar law...

It had been the law among those who travelled other worlds for an unimportant amount of time (for time had almost no meaning to them) that the fate of a planet could only be decided by the morality of the dominant species. It had long been accepted that the morality of other worlds was irrelevant and could not be applied, when the battle for Earth began it was not with lasers or bombs but with careful argument to the umpire of the galaxy, a logician who specialized in interspecies conflict resolution...

The aliens plugged into the mainframe code of Earth. It was confusing. For the most part planets either fell to the positive or negative force but this one was an ongoing battle. The source code was positive as they'd expected, but the hacking was immense. It was the single largest war they'd ever found, the dark hackers swarming in a feeding frenzy. The hackers could never win the planet, not without the source code, but they could render it uninhabitable out of spite. The alien commander hailed the creator of Earth and offered assistance. Their solution was to take out the dominant life-forms, without them there would be millions of years or more to think of a solution to the hackers...
