The love-o-meter must come with the protect-o-meter and a nurture-o-meter to each other, a tried and tested trio in synchrony, otherwise the emotions are only a crush that will crush you or the other.

Some take their love-o-meter as a certificate of ownership that comes with a bundle of entitlements, and so they start to treat the person they love as if they were a broken machine, as if they needed fixing and informing of proper behaviours... they appear unaware that the emotional storm within them is only within themselves. The love-o-meter needle gives them no rights to the emotions or time of that other person they love. Instead they should take a step back. Observe themselves for a moment. See their storm for what it is. Yes, they love that person, but there is no certificate, no entitlements, no bundle... whatever happens, if the love is requited or not, they are still just two people trying their best to deal with the challenges of living and loving. The love-o-meter is very useful, however, for it shows whom one should try one's best to love the right way, to nurture, to soothe, to respect and honour. When one does this, as hard as it can be, the soul is set free in the right way.

The first time I ever saw you, ever took in the enormity of your soul, my love-o-meter has been set to maximum in regards to you. Every day onward from that moment, it has remained the same. Storms and bright sunny days come and go with the seasons, and that needle stays in the exact same place. So, I guess I love you. I guess I'm in love with you, as inconvenient as that may be. I'm okay though, okay living my life, learning how to become independent emotionally - as far as it is possible and healthy for any human to achieve. So, whatever comes, this love is there for you, to see you through whatever ills or whatever joys happen to come.

I am grumpy, I am. I've had a tough day and the grump monster has bitten his way through the bars. My grump-o-meter is off the chain. Sorry. My love-o-meter is however exactly the same as when I'm at my best. So please... space is all I need... I promise that I still love you, I do.

My grump-o-meter is my grump-o-meter, it's not my love-o-meter... there are times we need to let negative emotions evaporate. We let the sun come, we feel the gentle heat of the rays... and the grump gives way to the hugger, the comedian, the loving soul. So, when you see this grumpy face, remember that the love-o-meter is still on maximum for you, okay kiddo?

The love-o-meter doesn't come with entitlements, love is free, it can only thrive in liberty... yet you must be real about what kind of relationship your heart can handle. Everyone has the right to protect themselves and clear communication is a must in matters of the heart. To do this right, you must first have a clear sense of who you are and what you want. So, when that meter says you have fallen in love, take a moment to step back and ask yourself what you really, really need and then discover what they really really need. Either you are a match, or there are easy compromises that can work, or you take the hit and walk away - hard as that is.
